Álamos, Sonora, Mexico, 2024
We did a road trip south to Álamos in the state of Sonora, Mexico this past January. We left our Patagonia, AZ home early in the morning and drove south all day to Álamos in the southern end of Sonora. It's about a 430-mile one-way trip but Jake, our bird guide, did all the driving! Álamos is at the northern tip of Tropical Deciduous Forest having a mix of cactus such as etchos and tropical deciduous trees such as Tree Morning Glory, Figs, Sabinos and Bursera. We found over 200 bird species over 6 days of birding along with several reptiles and mammals. On our return we stopped at San Carlos along the Sea of Cortez before heading back to Patagonia.
